“Steve Hassan is a compelling spokesman on the topic of cult mind control, which encompasses issues of human identity, our innate psychological vulnerabilities and dissociation, and its relationship to mind control. All of which are of innate interest to mental health professionals.

In addition, he educates and challenges us to think about the forces and groups using mind control techniques in our culture.”

– Mary K. McCarthy, M.D.
Assistant Professor in Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School and Faculty, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, MA.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Steve Hassan has earned an M. Ed., he is a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), and he is also a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  He strongly encourages therapists and other mental health workers to be alert to and understanding of the effects of previous mind-control experiences, on the part of their patients.

In Steve's opinion, the majority of mental health workers are not sufficiently informed about the ways in which the lasting and residual effects of mind control can present as though the patient is seriously delusional.  Stories of bizarre and improbable occurrences and beliefs that make little sense outside of an understanding of a particular cult, often end with individuals being incorrectly diagnosed and subsequently suffering through inappropriate treatments.

Steve feels that it is crucial for all mental health workers to learn enough about mind control's effects in order to know how to screen for them so that if they are indeed present, an appropriate therapy or referral to specialists in the field could be better selected.   To that end Steve gives trainings, presents to conferences and hospital staff, and encourages research and publications that address these issues.

He has presented at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital (Harvard) Boston, MA and McLean Hospital (Harvard Psychiatric) Belmont, MA among other venues.

Currently, the Freedom of Mind Center is designing courses, curriculum and training programs to be delivered and supervised by Steve, which will increase the availability of knowledgeable and effective professional counselors.

Steve is available to supervise professionals on specific cases or to discuss training options. Please call the office at 617-628-9918 during the hours of 11-5 pm (EST), (M, T, TH, F).  He also welcomes opportunities to present or teach workshops.

If you have published or wish to publish something pertaining to the issue of mind control, cults or the Strategic Interaction Approach, then please submit it to us.  If you wish to be considered for entry into either our private or public database for possible referral, then please send us your vita, your areas of expertise, as well as your professional and client recommendations.

We strongly encourage you to read Steve’s two books as an excellent introduction to mind control and the process of recovery: Combatting Mind Control and Releasing the Bonds.

In other areas of the site there are many articles written by Steve and others as well as personal reflections by ex-members of controlling groups and cults.  Many professionals have found reading these to be well worth their time.

“…Steven Hassan’s approach is one that I value more than that of any other researcher or clinical practitioner…”
