Email, Security & Your Privacy

If you're going to contact us via email, you must take responsibility for insuring your own privacy.

Unless you take special steps, all email travels along the internet as plain text, readable and interceptable by many devious sources.

Freedom of Mind has undertaken steps which makes protecting your email communication with us as simple and as easy as possible.

What Freedom of Mind does to protect you

The Freedom of Mind web site has been setup with your security and privacy in mind.

As per the American Counseling Association's code of ethics, we use an encrypted web site and e-mail communications to help ensure confidentiality when possible.

Secure, encrypted forms

Forms submitted on freedomofmind.com are automatically encrypted. The https:// in front of the URL in the address bar of your browser shows you this is a secure connection, a so-called Secure Socket Layer.

SSL uses a cryptographic system that uses two keys to encrypt data - a public key known to everyone and a private or secret key known only to the recipient of the message.

Even if the data would be intercepted, it could not be decoded without the second, private, key.

Secure, encrypted email

All email for the freedomofmind.com domain goes to and through a secure, encrypted email server.

Freedom of Mind's email is handled by SAFe-mail. This is an encrypted mail system.

What you can do

For maximum security we suggest you sign up for a free email account with SAFe-mail.

This way the email would stay within the same encrypted server. This makes for encrypted, private end-to-end email communication among SAFe-mail users. The message cannot be intercepted.

SAFe-mail can be used with most popular e-mail programs. You can also access your SAFe-mail account using a web browser, which makes for even greater security.

All electronic communication is insecure in some shape or form: e-mail doubly so.

We believe that with the setup described above (encrypted forms, encrypted emails between us which stay on the same encrypted mail server) we have done the maximum to help ensure your privacy.

However, if security and privacy is of your utmost concern we do, at this time, believe that telephone or direct communication are among the more secure means of communication.
