"Steve Hassan is a compelling spokesman on the topic of cult mind control which encompasses issues of human identity and our innate psychological vulnerabilities and dissociation and its relationship to mind control, all of which are of innate interest to mental health professionals. In addition, he educates and challenges us to think about the forces and groups using mind control techniques in our culture, which is disturbing yet highly important to learn about."

-- Mary K. McCarthy, M.D.
Director of Psychiatry Training, Brigham & Women's Hospital,
Professor of Psychology, Stanford University,
Boston, Massachusetts

"...Steven Hassan's approach is one that I value more than that of any other researcher or clinical practitioner..."

-- Philip G. Zimbardo, Ph.D.
Author of the Stanford Prison Experiment
Professor of Psychology, Stanford University
President of the American Psychological Association 2002,
Author of The Lucifer Effect

Since my own rescue from the Moon cult in 1976, I have been involved in helping others. I am a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and also a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. As I have described in detail in Releasing the Bonds, the forcible deprogramming method evolved into the legal and voluntary exit-counseling approach and then to the Strategic Interaction approach (SIA).

I sincerely hope that SIA will not only continue to evolve in its application in the area of cult mind control, but that it will prove effective with other clinical problems which require a customized approach- gang involvement, extreme forms of acting-out, self-mutilation, substance abuse, suicidality.

This web site will be a source of information, networking and referral. If you have published or wish to publish something pertaining to the issue of mind control, cults or the Strategic Interaction Approach, please submit it to us. If you wish to be entered into our private or public database (or both) for possible referral, please send us your vita, your areas of expertise and professional and client recommendations.

Please consider presenting a case (successful or not) that might be helpful to share with colleagues.

On May 13th 2003, I gave a Grand Rounds presentation to over 100 psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, counselors and nurses at Beth Israel / Harvard Deaconess Hospital.

Over the years, I have done several programs at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts and when I have had a client inpatient was granted Affiliate in Clinical Psychology status.

Please call the office at 617-628-9918 during the hours of 11-5 pm, (M, T, TH, F) and speak with Debra if you would like to refer a client or are interested in training or supervision. I also welcome opportunities to lecture or teach workshops.
