AFFIDAVIT

I, Joanne Roselle, a Michigan State resident, do hereby make oath before a legal notary that this statement of events did in fact take place as follows:

1. That my son, Arthur W. Roselle, became a member of the Unification Church in December of 1974 at the age of 25, and within a month denounced his family, friends, possessions and future plans for a life time dedication to Rev. Moon and Unification Church.

2. That I and my family attempted, in every way possible, to communicate with my son in order for him to understand Unification Church through facts available to us and through dialogue with ex-members of the Unification Church but he refused to accept all help we offered.

3. That after two (2) years of few, but hateful, conversations with my son I felt his life and future were in peril and obvious he needed help.

4. That on October 25th, 19176 my son (Arthur) came home for a visit and I asked two (2) ex-members of Unification Church to come to come in and attempt to talk with him at my neighbor’s home.

5. That my son (Arthur) became violent when confronted by his family friends, and the two ex-members of Unification Church, Steven Hassan and Ellen L-----.

6. That my son (Arthur) began swinging his arms and hitting out at everyone and we were forced to tie his hands and legs so as not to do damage to himself and others.

7. That during this struggle my son (Arthur) was not hurt physically in any way although he was violent enough to have injured himself and those attempting to quiet him.

8. That during the two (2) days following, my son laid on a bed refusing to talk, eat, drink, bathe, and refused to allow anyone to touch him although everyone present extended love and concern to him. My son also displayed violence by kicking out two walks, throwing a drinking glass breaking it against the wall, and kicking out at those who came near.

9. That never, at any time, did Steven Hassan or Ellen L---- touch my son Arthur or threaten him with a series of shots or provoke any argument between my son and his family, but merely sat and expressed their views and experiences.

10. That both Steven Hassan and Ellen L---- refused to accept any money from me other than expenses incurred.

11. That my son (Arthur) told his father after two (2) days that the people there were sincere and asked to be untied, which his father did. Then my son stated to me that he looked down and saw that his hands were tied and realized his mind had been tied the same way and felt he had been under mind control.

12. That he became friends with everyone and thanked Steven Hassan for all his help.

13. That after staying with his family in Michigan for one week, during which time he was free to come and go, he accepted our suggestion to fly to Arizona on November 5th, with Kathy K------, an ex-member of Unification Church, to relax and sort out his thoughts. My son also said he wanted to leave Michigan for fear he would be confronted by Unification Church members.

14. That I financed the entire trip to Arizona including giving my son eight hundred ($800) dollars for expenses.

15. That my son (Arthur) phoned me on November 11 saying he wanted to return home whereas I arranged flights home for him and Kathy K------.

16. That my son disappeared the night before he was scheduled to return home leaving a note saying he would not go back to Unification Church and promised to be home December 22 for Christmas.

17. That I did not see my son again until May of 1977 when he appeared on a local radio show that I happened to attend.

18. That on February 22, 1977 my son was seen fund-raising on Van Dyke and 18 Mile Rd. (5 miles from our house) yet had not called to let me know he was in Michigan.

19. That since my son (Arthur) returned to Unification Church he has attempted to discredit Steven Hassan and other who helped him realize that Unification church had used mind-control on him.

20. That I feel that any statements made by my son (Arthur) against those opposing Unification Church or (are) not his and thoughts but those controlling him.
